When I first started at Bootjack Stompers (BJS), I was pretty tired after a 1/2 hour. Today, I can dance all night!
If you watch the video posted on FaceBook (FB) of a few of our line dancers, you can see we tend to go different directions at times. Those "creative moments" we call "Stylin' our moves". . . we don't make "mistakes".
Square Dancing is even more adventurous. We sometimes have 8 people "stylin' our moves", which really challenges the caller and the laughter rings loudly in the Stompers Hall.
Back to Health Benefits: When Square Dancing, you get something called "Range of Motion" (ROM) to your shoulders, elbows, wrists, etc. It is great for improving your endurance (low impact aerobic exercising), helps build up your sense of balance, many people become less "clumsy" as they improve their coordination. A side benefit is weight loss, improved bone density (decreasing your risk of osteoporosis) and a mood "lift" due to socializing with a very fun, positive group of people of all age groups. It is a very "family-friendly" activity!
Since you are in a nice building with a wood floor, the Bootjack Stompers Hall is very comfortable! We have air conditioning, a kitchen, dining hall and stage! (Our hall is available for rent). If you get tired, you just sit down and socialize for a while and then join in again when you are rested. If you are very out of shape or have any other health concerns, you might want to visit your healthcare provider for a check-up before your begin dancing (as with any exercise program).
Whether you are a new dancer, rusty dancer, passing-through Mariposa Dancer or just curious and want to watch for a while, please come by on Tuesday Night, starting at 6pm for workshops. Dances are advertised through our FB page, Mariposa Chamber of Commerce, our fledgling Web page, Goldrushcam.com and the Mariposa Gazette.
